Certificate Authority [CA] Software

PDF [1] Digi-CA™ Certificates can be used in a variety of different security situations as can be seen below:

      • SSL [2]
      • Two Factor Authentication [3]
      • Secure Email [4]
      • Digital Signatures [5]
      • Software & Code Signing [6]

Digi-CA™ Server is CA Software that is installed in a data centre at a site of your choosing. Once installed, configured and tested, this CA Software can provide any of the above Certificates as required.

The CA Software owner creates and controls their own CA environment but in so doing must have reliable Internet connections, hardware, hardware support, compliance [7] documents, Administrator’s and its own Technical Support Help Desk. Digi-CA™ Trust Centres [8], Governments and larger corporates are examples of organisations that choose to own and operate Digi-CA™ Server software.

In addition to the software and hardware requirement on your site, there is a once-off fee for the purchase of the Digi-CA™ Server software that is based on the cost of the software, its configuration and installation and then the number of Digital Certificates required over the life of the product's use.

The only other fee the Customer pays is an annual license fee (15-20% of the license fee) to cover upgrades, patches and application telephone support required to keep the CA operational.

When Selecting your CA [9] you may want to consider the two other options:

  • Digi-CA™ Service [10]
    • This is the Managed CA that is out sourced from your organisation to a Digi-CA™ Trust Centre [8] operated either by Digi-CAST™ personnel or by a Digi-Trust™ Partner [11] and requires no investment other than the annual license fees.
  • Digi-CA™ Shared [12]
    • This a combination of the Digi-CA™ Server and the Digi-CA™ Service [10] systems where parts of the CA are inside your environment and other parts are managed externally.
